Hiking/Running

The San Juan Mountains surrounding Telluride are the perfect setting for your alpine vacation. Check out our description of over 30 individual area hikes!

Waterfalls are already gushing in June, and wildflowers are at their height beginning in early July. There are plenty of hiking trails accessed directly from the town of Telluride including: Bear Creek Falls, Jud Weibe, Coronet Falls, the Sneffels Highline, and Ballard.

A short 2 mile jaunt to the east end of the box canyon brings you to Bridal Veil Falls and the trail head for some spectacular yet more strenuous day hikes. Hike Ajax for a phenomenal view of Telluride or head into the backcountry where you can walk along the river, spy waterfalls, find high alpine lakes, wade through fields of wildflowers and visit mining relics which showcase Telluride’s past.

Further afield there are more options whether you are a seasoned hiker and are ready to bag more fourteeners or you are just looking to take in the natural beauty of the region.

Remember to always arm yourself with plenty of water, snacks and a good raincoat. Even the sunniest mornings can turn into stormy afternoons, so venture out prepared into the San Juan Mountain backcountry!
