Telluride Mountain School
Telluride Mountain School is a non-profit accredited independent school located in the town of Telluride. There are approximately 100 students enrolled at the school from throughout the Telluride region. The Mountain School strives to facilitate the learning of critical thinking, artistic expression, and ethical behavior through a challenging and experiential learning program and service learning trips.
The Mountain School is organized into four divisions:
- Montessori at Mountain School: Preschool & Kindergarten
- Lower School: Grades 1-4
- Middle School: Grades 5-8
- Upper School: Grades 9-12
The Telluride Mountain School has recently added a Ski Academy to its curriculum. This initiative has added new programmatic elements geared towards the student-athlete. Skiers and riders are empowered through their pursuit of athletic excellence while maintaining a rigorous academic program. Small class sizes and individualized attention help student athletes to support their competitive schedule while continuing their studies.
The Mountain School Ski Academy works in partnership with the Telluride Ski & Snowboard Club, one of the best clubs in the country, to develop skills in seven different disciplines: Alpine, Freestyle Mogul, Freeride, All Mountain, Snowboard, Telemark, and Cross Country. Skiers and boarders range from 5 years old at the introductory level to high-school students and post-graduates vying for US Ski Team spots. Three former TSSC athletes (Joe Discoe, moguls, Gus Kenworthy, Freeride, and Hagan Kearney, Snowboard) are currently skiing for the US National Team. The entire program runs in conjunction with the Telluride Ski Resort.
Additionally, for student athletes joining the community for afar, the Ski Academy coordinates homestays with local host families.
