4th of July here in Telluride is a joyous celebration of small town Americana. The day begins with a massive community-wide parade and ends with a spectacular fireworks show over Town Park. The rest of the mid-summer festivals are more modest in size, which allows for easier access to tickets and better rates on lodging.
Mid-summer is typically the warmest time of the year here in Southwest Colorado. Temperatures, however, rarely reach above 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the lack of humidity in this high alpine climate makes for an unbelievably beautiful summer.
Summer thunderstorms begin to punctuate the days heading into July. A typical day will consist of gorgeous bluebird skies in the mornings, clouds and showers in the afternoons, and clearing skies at night. You will want to start all of your hikes early in the mornings so as not to get stuck at high altitudes in a storm. That being said, the wildflowers are at their peak this time of year so catch a festival, explore in your jeep, and go hiking!
