Visiting artist Sarah B. Hansen invites students to move past representational landscapes into an abstract, yet recognizable, realm of painting, using watercolors and mixed media in non-traditional methods. Students will learn new techniques for of creating a textured surface on which to paint, organizing a compelling composition, creating color mixes and themes with limited palettes, and applying watercolor & mixed media using brushes and other tools. In this workshop, students will begin to break up the idea of painting exactly what they see. Each day will start with a demonstration, in which Sarah will describe her unique approach to developing a painting, then each student will work on their paintings throughout the remainder of the day. Individual help and personal goals will be the focus. Students must purchase the required materials on their own.
