Encaustics: A Crash Course

Curious about encaustics? This hot wax layering process produces paintings with luminous surfaces and textures. After learning proper surface preparation and safety measures, participants get to work melting colored pigment into beeswax and then applying layers of transparent colors onto a wood panel. They will then add texture to their works using tools and found objects. Students should emerge with a good range of technical skills and the ability to explore with encaustics on their own.
