Where to Bike As a Family in Telluride

Telluride's area bike trails are a great activities for families visiting in the summertime. From leisurely rides to more challenging trails, there's something for the entire family.

"You’re outside in one of the most beautiful places in the world," says Buck Smith, Christy Sports Area Manager. "Whether you're all getting out and riding for the first time or checking some new trails off the list biking is a great way to bring people together."

If you're brand-new to biking, the Valley Floor is a great option. The south side of the Valley Floor is a dirt trail with some obstacles, but is flat and easy to navigate. On the north side of the Valley Floor is the paved bike path, which is definitely the easiest route for all family members to check out.

Up in Mountain Village, the Boulevard Trail is an ideal option for new bikers. Boulevard is a gentle 2.5-mile trail that is well-maintained and wide enough for strollers, yet offers amazing views of Mountain Village - Perfect for families.

If you're looking for something a little more challenging, try taking Jurassic or Meadows Trail from Mountain Village down to Lawson and take the River Trail back to Telluride. That route ends up being a huge loop, and you can take the Gondola back up to Mountain Village with your bike.

Even if a trail is easy and listed as family-friendly, it's important to be prepared for anything, including inclement weather and injuries.

"Listen to the trail and gear recommendations, have access to maps or riding apps, bring lots of water, snacks, sunscreen and pay attention to the weather," says Smith.
