Telluride Ski Resort Revises Winter Season Opening Date to Saturday, December 6

Telluride Ski & Golf Resort announced Wednesday, November 12 that it will adjust its target opening date for the 2025–26 winter season to Saturday, December 6, due to a continued stretch of unseasonably warm and dry weather across the San Juan Mountains.

Despite significant effort from the resort’s mountain operations team, minimal natural snowfall and temperatures above the ideal range for snowmaking have made it impossible to open terrain safely and sustainably by the originally scheduled date.

“Our Snowmaking crew is eager and ready to turn on the snow when the temps cooperate, while all our other Mountain Operations teams are chomping at the bit to do what we do best; get everyone skiing,” said Nancy Clark.

To date, mountain ops has initiated snowmaking through the upper-mountain’s high-pressure system, allowing crews to begin a foundation of snow at elevations where brief windows of colder temperatures have permitted production.

The good news: forecasts indicate a pattern change arriving in the coming days, bringing more seasonable temperatures and the potential for natural snowfall. “Now’s a great time to put your snow dancing shoes on,” added Clark. “Winter is coming—we just need a little more cooperation from Mother Nature.” The resort will provide regular updates leading up to the revised target opening date as the forecast unfolds.

In the meantime, guests should note the following important updates:

Mountain Access: All access to the ski resort permit area remains closed. This includes hiking, skiing, sledding, biking, and any other on-mountain activities until the resort officially opens. The closure ensures guest safety and allows mountain crews to prepare terrain without interruption.

Gondola Operations: The Telluride–Mountain Village Gondola will reopen for the winter season on Friday, November 21, providing scenic, free transportation between the two towns. However, the Chondola (Lift 1) will remain closed to the public until the resort opens for skiing and riding.
