Six Suggestions for a Rainy Day

We know you’ve come to Telluride to experience the wonders of the great outdoors, but don’t forget that this dry climate could use a little rain now and again! Expect monsoon Season here to bring afternoon showers, lush green trees, and blooming wildflowers. The rain typically comes and goes quickly, but when it decides to stay, know that there is plenty to do while still staying dry! Here are our top 6 Rainy Day activities.

1) The Nugget Theatre: There’s nothing better than sitting in the theater, relentlessly eating that buttery popcorn, and hearing the thunder boom and the rain come down outside. The Nugget is a little theater located on Main Street that shows 2-3 screenings every day. Check out their website for a schedule of what’s playing.

2) Ah Haa Art Classes: The Ah Haa Arts Center is a gem here in Telluride, offering classes and workshops for kids and adults. Check out their website for a schedule of classes. They offer everything from cooking to printmaking and landscape painting. Whether you are an artist or not, head over to Ah Haa and channel that inner creativity…I am sure these mountains will inspire something to come out!

3) Wilkinson Public Library: Libraries are great.Walk into the Wilkonson Public Library on Pacific Avenue in Telluride and you will understand why. On a rainy day, I will almost always wander to the library to grab a free movie (perks of a free library card!), or peruse the book shelves and curl up in a comfy chair for a while. Mmmmmmm, books.

4) Spa Day: Even the most rugged of folk visiting Telluride deserve a little pampering now and then. Visit any of Telluride’s number of salons or spas for some rest and relaxation. A Massage, a facial, nail care, a haircut- take the time on a rainy day to sit down and soak it all in.

5) Indoor Rock Climbing: Fuel Gym on Main Street is also home to an indoor climbing gym! Don’t fret because even when the rain is coming down, you can head over here to try some problems and get a workout in.  They offer over 90 linear feet of indoor climbing, bouldering up to 14 feet or top rope up to 20 feet. Check out their site for more information on passes and lesson info.

6) Pizza at the Brown Dog: Well, if you can’t get out for a hike, might as well get out for a drink! And comfort food? Yum. Sometimes a rainy day means a lazy day, and that means no cooking for this girl. If you agree with this statement, grab your friends and head over to the Brown Dog for some pizza and beer. It’s always nice to get out of the house, even if that means indulging in some good eats and tasty libations!
