It’s Never Too Early to Plan Your Telluride Vacation

In Telluride, we love this time of year. Autumn paints the box canyon golden, snow appears on the surrounding peaks and the evenings grow crisp and a little chilly. And, enthusiastic skiers and boarders (who are extremley excited about the 24 inches of snow last week) start a countdown to Opening Day of the season at the Telluride Ski Resort.

Yep, the Winter 2018-2019 ski season is approaching and it’s never too soon to start planning that Telluride vacation. Here is your snow-season getaway to-do list:

BOOK FLIGHTS

With direct flights from 12 major hubs, getting to Telluride is a cinch. Visitors to the area have two destination airports to choose from: Montrose Airport, a scenic 65-mile drive to the ski area, or Telluride Airport, just 10 minutes from the slopes. Either option means a traffic-free, hassle-free trip to your favorite ski resort.

CAR RENTAL-DON'T BOTHER

This one’s easy: don’t bother. You won’t need a car in Telluride, we promise. There are lifts based within the town of Telluride plus a free town-loop bus, and pretty much all of Mountain Village is ski in/ski out with runs like Village Bypass literally bisecting the village center. Linking the twin communities and the ski resort is the Gondola. Free, pet friendly and handicap accessible, the “G” makes travel between Telluride, Mountain Village and the ski resort a piece of cake.

ACCOMMODATIONS

This one’s not so easy. The wealth of lodging options in Telluride and Mountain Village mean tough decisions await. From historic Main Street hotels and quiet, cozy hideaways in Telluride to luxe, European-style hotels with amenities like spas and swimming pools in Mountain Village, from penthouse apartments with stunning views to a sprawling, mountainside retreat that has ample room for the extended family or large group, accommodations here can be whatever you want.

TERRAIN

Like to scope out the mountain in advance? Does your significant other live for steeps and hike-to terrain while you crave cruisers or corduroy? Telluride has you covered, with terrain that has something for everyone. First, there’s the pretty much perfect break down: 23 percent beginner, 36 percent intermediate and 41 percent advanced.
