Celebrating 4th of July in Telluride's Backyard

OK, so, Telluride's signature Fourth of July events — the traditional parade, barbeque and fireworks—have been cancelled this summer but the good news is that Mountain Village has an actiion packed line up of events from July 3-5.

If you take a break from all the Mountain Village fun, the perfect outdoor playground is on offer, meaning exciting adventures, memory makers and the opportunity to forge new Independence Day traditions all your own.

VROOM

For some motorized fun, head to a local outfitter. Telluride Outfitters, for instance, offers, as part of its adventure mix, Polaris Adventures-guided RZR tours; swanky, three-wheeled fun with a Vanderhall rental; or a 4x4 perfect for exploring (independently in your own Jeep Rubicon or with a guide) the old mining roads that lace the slopes and basins above Telluride. Buckle up and have a blast.

HIKING & BKING

Looking to get around under your own steam? A varied trail network awaits hikers and bikers of all abilities. Favorite hikes include challenging, all-day treks like the 13-mile Sneffels Highline; mellower in-town options like Bear Creek and the new Bridal Veil Trail. For bikers, there is the newly expanded bike park on the Telluride Ski Resort, plus a range of trails in and around Telluride and Mountain Village.

SPLASH

Come summertime, area streams and lakes become playgrounds. Tops of our list for water-borne adventuring? Stand-up paddle boarding (local’s tip: Telluride Outfitters provides gear from highly regarded local specialists SOL Paddle Boards) oe grab an inner tube and simply float lazily along the San Miguel River. And there’s fishing, too. Local outfitters are ready to advise everyone from serious anglers to newbies. A family friendly option is Elks Pond in Mountain Village.

BASECAMP MOUNTAIN VILLAGE

Whatever you do, Mountain Village, Telluride’s high-alpine twin — connected via a 13-minute ride on the free, unique Gondola — makes for the perfect base. Chexk out the new Canopy Adventure Tours. A number of hiking and biking trails emanate from the village center, which is also a veritable launch pad for a range of activities like the bike park, a disc golf course, tennis, pickle ball, paddle tennis and more. The best part? When you’re all done, take advantage of Mountain Village’s delicious dining scene, which, this summer, has spilled out onto the village’s plazas, where guests can enjoy a cocktail throughout most of the plazas in the common consumption areas, made lively with live music and, of course, the stunning scenery.

AL FRESCO DINING

Many outdoor dining areas have been added in Telluride and Mountain Village so guests can enjoy table service (from select restaurants) or take out while basking in our Colorado sunshine and fresh air. Enjoy dining in Mountain Village unique gondola cabins.
