Best Outdoor Patios to Enjoy in the Summer

One of the best parts about summer in Telluride? The abundance of outdoor patios just waiting to be enjoyed around town. Whether you prefer panoramic views, enjoying dinner with your furry friend or simply downing a cold one after a long day exploring the mountains, there are plenty of patios for you.

Check out a few of our favorites – and let us know yours!

For Rooftop Lovers

Last Dollar Saloon: This historic bar (think built in 1899) upped the ante in 2018 by adding an amazing rooftop bar. With 360-degree views of Ajax and the entire valley (and smells from Brown Dog next door), this is definitely a hotspot to check out if you’re in the mood for a drink (there is no food served here) and a view.

Runner Up - Sheridan Rooftop: Looking for a snack AND a view? The Sheridan Rooftop Bar, which was the only rooftop bar in town until the Last Dollar Saloon opened theirs, is perched atop of the Sheridan Chop House on historic Main Street. Large umbrellas provide much-needed shade in the summer, but still allow you to enjoy the green mountainsides.k Grab a specialty martini, glass of wine, a cold beer – but don’t forget the truffle fries!

For the Fine Diners

Sheridan Chop House: A staple in the Telluride community, the Sheridan Chop House is a great place for an upscale meal right on Main Street. The patio offers great views of the flower boxes, Ajax, and everything that makes Telluride… Telluride. Not only are their dinners excellent (try the bison ribeye!) but they also serve breakfast and lunch.

Runner Up – COSMOpolitan: The COSMOpolitan may be rated the #1 rated fine dining restaurant in Telluride, but it offers so much more than that. While the outdoor patio may be small, guests can admire the gondola as it goes by and soak in one of the best happy hours in town. Be sure to get there early to grab a spot!

For the Dog Lovers

Oak: Okay, technically no dogs are allowed on their patio, but their large outdoor patio at the base of Lift 8 has a fence PERFECT for Fido to get leashed up to while you enjoy your BBQ and beer. They’re just an arm’s length away, making it the perfect spot to sit back and relax with your dog. Not to mention, beer and wine here is extremely reasonable.

Runner Up – Floradora: Located right on Main Street, this classic saloon has been around since 1973! Serving up dishes like fried chicken, baked mac n’ cheese and fish and chips, it’s a great spot for an affordable bite in the town of Telluride. The patio may be small, but you’ll often see dogs with their owners (on the other side of the fence, of course). Your pup will love all of the friends he will meet while exploring Main Street!

For Mountain Village Dwellers

The Peaks: If you’re looking for a patio with a view, this is your best bet. A hotspot for weddings due to its amazing views, Altezza at The Peaks serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Sweeping views of Mt. Wilson and the surrounding mountains will keep you mesmerized your entire meal. If you DO have time to take your eyes off the mountain and eat, the menu is filled with regionally sourced and local ingredients. Yum!

Runner Up - Mountain Lodge: Located slopeside in Mountain Village, the View Bar and Grill has 30-foot ceilings that afford views of the iconic San Sophia ridge that overlooks Telluride. Sit poolside at the Mountain Lodge (you’ve probably seen this pool from your gondola ride) and enjoy a cool breeze and live music. Don’t forget to ask about drink and food specials

For Coffee

Coffee Cowboy: Honestly, could a patio be any cuter? Serving up coffee drinks from an old horse trailer right on Main Street, it’s the perfect place to swing by for a quick drink or sit back and enjoy the back patio in the shade. Seriously, every drink we’ve had here is amazing – and they even have vegan options! Don’t forget to pay it forward!

Runner Up - High Alpine Coffee: If you’re looking for a more intimate patio with great coffee and local chatter, you’ll absolutely adore High Alpine Coffee. Located in the back of the Between the Covers bookstore, this locally owned shop has amazing coffee, sweet and treats! Their patio overlooks the ski hills and Ballard, providing that tranquility you won’t find on Main Street.
