Alta Lakes Road, or National Forest System Road 632, is closed due to deteriorating road conditions beginning June 13, 2025. 

The road closure will be in effect until GMUG and San Miguel County staff can widen and stabilize the roadbed in the coming weeks. 

The gate will remain open at the base of Alta Lakes Road to provide access to parking for the Magic Meadows Trail (NFST #515) until the road closure is lifted. A barricade will mark the start of the road closure, indicating that vehicles are no longer permitted beyond that point.
