Liquor Licensing

The Telluride Liquor Licensing Authority and the Colorado Department of Revenue must both approve any application for a liquor license or any change to a liquor license. Neither entity may issue a license without the consent of the other.

In Telluride, a hearing officer acts as the local Liquor Licensing Authority for all liquor matters except new licenses, with Town Council approving or denying new licenses and appeals. The local Liquor Licensing Authority meets on a regular basis. An application is placed on the agenda after it is complete and public noticing requirements have been met. For application information, please click here.

In Mountain Village, if you plan to serve and/or sell alcohol to the general public, the Mountain Village Town Council grants such licenses. Click here for complete application information.

There is a comprehensive application process, and your first contact is the Mountain Village Town Clerk. Acting on behalf of the local Liquor Licensing Authority, the Town Clerk is authorized to:

  • Accept your liquor license application
  • Process your application
  • Schedule public hearings regarding your liquor license request

For state liquor law, it is recommended that you order a code book from the State Forms Center. Click here to review the code online.

Business Licenses

The Towns of Telluride and Mountain Village both require organizations that conduct business within town limits to hold current business licenses. To apply for a business license or for more information, please refer to the links below:

Town of Telluride has a business license law that mandates the licensing of persons doing business within Telluride Town limits (Municipal Code Section 6-1-10 through 6-1-100) and Lawson Hill. Non-profits are exempt from this requirement. Business license proceeds are distributed to the visitors bureau and Marketing Telluride, Inc. for regional marketing (74%), to the Open Space Fund (20%), and to town administration (6%).

Town of Mountain Village requires a business license for all businesses and in-home businesses operating within Mountain Village Town limits, including non-profit organizations. For those conducting temporary activities (i.e., building, housekeeping, landscaping and painting) with out-of-town office locales or on a contractual basis, you must also apply for a business license.
