Not a skier? Not a problem!

Monday • February 2, 2015

We are all aware that Telluride, Colorado as a winter destination is primarily known for its world-class skiing.  The Telluride Ski Resort has been ranked #1 in North America by Conde Naste Readers 3 years in a row!  We can all agree... nothing beats slaying Log Pile after a 10 inch powder dump or ripping down See Forever on a bluebird day.  However, one of the biggest questions we get asked on a regular basis is - "What else is there to do in Telluride besides ski?"

And the answer is simple... A LOT!

Some Things To Do in Telluride Besides Ski:

Snowmobiling - Treat yourself to some spectacular scenery and an exhilarating ride with a snowmobile tour during your next Telluride vacation.  Explore the Beaver Park area between the Wilson and Dolores mountain ranges with the experienced guides at Telluride Outside.  They offer both full day and half day tours.  Check out more info on snowmobiling.

Fat Tire Winter Biking - That's right...we don't let all the snow put a damper on the biking scene here in Telluride!  Instead, we hop on mountain bikes with massive tires built to charge through the snow.  Bootdoctor offers Fat Bike Tours along the Valley Floor. Sledding - Buy a sled from Ace Hardware and head to Firecracker Hill in Telluride Town Park or Chair 7 "The Coonskin Lift."  Kids love sledding...and a sled will only set you back $15-$20.  It's a no-brainer for budget conscious travelers.

Ice Skating - Take a break from the ski boots and put on a pair of ice skates.  The Mountain Village core has an ice rink that offers a great place for family fun.  It is located behind Crazy Elk Pizza next to Hotel Madeline.  The Hanley Pavilion in Telluride also offers a fun place to go ice skating.  Skates can be rented on-site.

Gondola - Telluride is home to a one of a kind FREE public transportation- the Gondola!  No we aren't talking about those boats from Italy... we are referring to an 8 person enclosed ski cabin that connects the Town of Telluride and the Town of Mountain Village.  It's a 13-minute ride and takes passengers up to 10,500 feet in elevation with breathtaking views of both the Town of Telluride and Mountain Village.  It is a MUST DO while you are in Telluride.

Telluride Sleighrides - Sleigh rides are a fun way to enjoy Telluride's scenic beauty.  Ride with Roudy offers sleigh and wagon tours while Telluride Sleighs and Wagons offers a unique dinner sleigh ride experience.  Both are just minutes from downtown Telluride.

Dog Sledding - Wintermoon Sled Dog Adventures offers a one of a kind experience fueled by teams of Alaskan huskies.  Explore snow-covered trails throughout the San Juan and Uncompahgre National Forests while learning about the sport of mushing, races and its necessary equipment.

Indoor Rock Climbing Wall - Both Fuel and the Telluride High School have rock climbing walls and you can spend hours entertaining and tiring out the kids.

Wilkinson Public Library - The Wilkinson Public library is an endless source of fun and entertainment for both kids and adults.  Surf the web, check out the music section, read a book or just let the kids run around in the Kid Zone.  You will not be disappointed.

Telluride Food Tours - Are you a foody?  Explore all Telluride's finest culinary establishments with Telluride Food Tours!  Tours consist of visiting Telluride's top dining establishments and tasting food while local guides offer insight on the history on Telluride.

If you aren't really an adventurous person then just grab a book or a magazine an enjoy a relaxing read by a fireplace in one of our hotels, condos or private homes.  Look outside and watch the snowfall from one of our featured properties.  Mountian Village has a great fire pit right in the core where you can relax and watch skiers come down the mountain.  Great people watching!
