Though I may be a bit biased, my favorite place to spend New Year’s Eve is right here in Telluride. There are a million things going on, and there never seems to be a down moment! To start the evening the whole town watches the Torchlight Parade. The ski patrol and some other locals carry burning red torches down the Telluride and Mountain Village sides of the mountain. While the red train is going down, there are also fireworks bursting from the top creating an amazing array of light.
Then, if you want to attend a more formal event, there is the New Year’s Eve Gala at the Ah Haa School. Though this sounds like a splendid time, most people disperse for a while to their own dinners and parties.Telluride has some of the best restaurants to choose from, whether you are looking for casual or fancy! Eating seems like the best way to pass the time before midnight, so you might as well eat somewhere delicious. Once midnight comes close, everyone, and I mean everyone, heads to the Courthouse for the countdown. The entire street is packed with people of all ages, as we scream “3..2..1!”
Now, since you went to bed some time after 12am, you will probably want to sleep in for a while. And that is totally reasonable, but for the rest of your day do what you want! It will be 2016! Maybe start your resolutions, or spend the day on the hill!
