Backcountry Education Courses

Avalanche Safety Education Courses

The San Juan Field School, in conjunction with Telluride Alpinism, offers several avalanche education opportunities throughout the winter season. Their courses are designed to follow the American Avalanche Association (AAA) guidelines and the curriculum set out by the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE). All participants receive a Certificate of Completion for these courses. Field sessions make up approximately 50% of the course content and are conducted in real avalanche terrain. The San Juan Field School instructors and guides are all avalanche forecasters, snow safety experts, professional ski patrollers and/or are professional members of the AAA. Please visit the San Juan Field School website for more detailed information,
