Let's Go Powder Rangers
Explore the rugged, wild San Juan Mountains in a setting unlike anything you have ever experienced. Backcountry skiing in Telluride offers hundreds of miles of pristine and exciting terrain. Take a helicopter tour with Helitrax and make turns in pure, untracked powder. Really want to earn your turns? Plan a hut-to-hut ski trip with San Juan Huts and ski the scenic Mount Sneffles Wilderness Area. The tranquil vistas and spectacular views will leave you dreaming of your next trip to the backcountry.
Please note that most backcountry excursions are for experts and require specialized safety knowledge and gear. Telluride Avalanche School, run by San Juan Outdoor Adventures, offers several avalanche education opportunities throughout the winter season. Their courses are designed to follow the American Avalanche Association (AAA) guidelines and the curriculum set out by the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE). All participants receive a Certificate of Completion for these courses.
