The lake is annually stocked with trout and wildflowers border the lake. The hike starts with a creek crossing and a climb up a rocky trail. This ascent is the most strenuous until you reach a set of switchbacks. Stop here to gaze at the mountainous landscape. It's especially beautiful during the alpenglow. Continue toward a forested area where you will make a second creek crossing. The trail is soft, from fallen spruce needles and the fragrance is all pine! Next, you will come to a meadow which is at its gorgeous peak in late July/early August. You will make your final ascent to Silver Lake from which you can see Ballard to the West. Enjoy the gorgeous lake, and take a polar plunge if you have the urge!

Drive or hike up to the power plant at the top of Bridal Veil Falls. High clearance, 4-wheel drive vehicles are recommended. The trailhead begins at the top of the falls: Walk through the gate and follow for ten minutes until you get to the creek. Cross the creek and follow the switchbacks to Silver Lake. Take care in the spring because the river may be running quite high after snow melt. It is often necessary to remove your shoes to cross.
