From May to September, camping in Telluride is an unbeatable experience. Each area has its own jaw-dropping views, with hikes and more, accessible from your tent’s front door. Our favorite camping spot is right along the San Miguel River at the Town Park Campground. This site is in the heart of Telluride and the perfect site for a major festival.
Just outside of town there are a few designated camping areas tucked in the forest with some basic amenities. Matterhorn Campground is RV friendly with 4 sites offering RV hookups. Sunshine Campground is nestled in an aspen forest with firewood and showers available for a fee.
If you prefer a more primitive experience, drive up to a high alpine lake to camp, fish and relax. Alta Lakes is a local’s favorite with its unreal blue shade and is family friendly. Feeling adventurous? Backpack up to Hope Lake and camp among the best wildflowers in all the San Juans
