Sightseeing

Drivers on Main Street in Telluride need to be extra cautious of pedestrians who are often so engrossed in the beautiful scenery, that they literally don’t watch where they are going! This box canyon in the heart of the San Juan Mountains is full of not-to-be-missed sights for visitors to explore. One of the top attractions is the gondola that connects the Town of Telluride to Mountain Village. This free scenic 15-minute ride is actually a part of the Mountain Village public transportations system and runs from 7am to midnight during the summer season and ski season.

The gondola does operate later during select festivals and special events. The east end of Telluride is home to the tallest free-falling falls in Colorado, Bridal Veil Falls at 365 feet. While the falls are especially spectacular during the spring run-off, they run year-round and it is always worth the trip to check it out. To gain a more historic insight into the area, the Telluride Museum is the place to start. Along with the interesting exhibits, the museum also offers several walking tours, cemetery tours and a variety of special presentations throughout the year. While in town, be sure to swing by the Free Box located on Pine Street. The idea of the Free Box is to leave what you don’t need and take what you do need. You never know what you’ll find from a paperback book to designer ski gear.
