One of our favorite festivals... is right around the corner. Mountainfilm Telluride just announced its authors, activists, scientists and more for the upcoming Memorial Day festival, May 25th - 28th. This year's theme and discussion... Population. It will feature documentary films, art, guest presentations, exhibits and more. This is truly one of our favorite up-and-coming festivals in Telluride. Thursday, March 15thNCAA Tournament Begins – March Madness is back. Tomorrow at 10am MST the 2012 Men’s NCAA Tournament will kick-off. Do you have your bracket ready? Here are a couple facts to keep in mind: 

  • a 12th seed team has won 24 of the last 27 years in the first round
  • a 11th seed team wins 33% in opening games
  • a 10th seed team wins 40% in opening games
  • Only once in 15 years have all four #2 seeds reached the Sweet 16
  • All four #1 seeds have reached the Final Four only once in history
  • Top 4 seeds have produced every winner since 1990

Thursday, March 15th - Tuesday, March 20th - 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - Telluride Theatre presents the 25th Annual Spelling Bee at Putnam Valley Middle School - competition is fierce, there's a lot on the line and its the time of life (puberty) where things just happen. Winner of two Tony Awards, the musical comedy follows 6 quirky adolescents who compete in a Spelling Bee, run by three equally-quirky adults. This hilarious Spring musical is back for 6 nights at the Palm Theatre! Shows start at 7:30pm, tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 16 (PG-13). Come support these talented locals! 

 


Friday, March 16thTaste of Latin Flavor – The Sheridan Arts Foundation (SAF) presents its winter fundraiser: A Taste of Latin Flavor! This evening of food, drink and entertainment includes delicious tapas, Latin American wines, saucy music and a live Tango performance by professional dancers. After the performance, a DJ will continue the party with a variety of Latin rhythms and beats. Come to the Sheridan Opera House on Friday night from 7-10pm. Tickets are $50 for standing room and $75 for reserved seats. Support the SAF and get yo dance on at the Opera House! Saturday, March 17thNew Belgium Scavenger Hunt – Ski! Ride! Hunt! All while benefitting the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program this Saturday at the Telluride Ski Resort. Where your best costume, chase chickens, search for bigfoot, answer riddles, raise money and ski the mountain. Get  a friend or 4, bring $10 per person & ski pass and join the New Belgium crew on the slopes for a fun day and good cause! Sunday, March 18thLez Zeppelin in concert – Time to rock out with the all female Led Zeppelin Tribute Band – Lez Zeppelin – at the Sheridan Opera House on Sunday night! Tuesday, March 20thBlitzen Trapper in concert – YESS! Blizten Trapper is back. They play a brief set at Wine Festival a couple years ago… and ever since, they’re been blowing up on the music scene. Reigning from Portland, Oregon, this country/folk band should be on the top of your bucketlist of bands to see live. And at the Opera House?? Oh my. This is going to be one of the best shows of the season. In 2008, their album was ranked #13 and title track was ranked #4 on Rolling Stone’s Best of 2008. This will be Sheridan Opera House’s 2nd to last show of the season… so, get your tickets fast! You won’t regret it. Show starts at 8:00pm and tickets are $20. Thursday, January 12th – Monday, January 16thCoolSculpt – the 8th annual CoolSculpt snow sculpting competition is back in the Mountain Village… all week long! Watch 8 sq. foot cubes of snow be transformed into giant animals, landscapes, mythical creatures and many more cool creations. Judging will be done on Monday, January 16th at 9:00am. Stroll through the Heritage Plaza in the Core of Mountain Village and check these awesome sculptures out!

 


Friday & Saturday, January 13th and 14thElephant Revival and The Infamous Stringdusters – Get your dancin’ shoes ready for two nights of bluegrass fever. Time to party down like it’s the Summer Solstice all over again... Friday night The Infamous Stringdusters will open, with Elephant Revival headlining… and Saturday night Elephant Revival will open for The Infamous Stringdusters at the historic (and awesome) Sheridan Opera House.
