February 23, 2009 - 10:22am.

Join us for four days of bluegrass based music during the 36th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival.  There is no better way to experience Telluride, its community, mountains and many activities than during the Festival which is held June 18-21, 2009.   Festival dates coincide with the Summer Solstice and a full moon, making the Telluride Bluegrass Festival a great way to transition from snow to summer with long days and fun nights.

The festival is known for its all day music on the main stage in the town of Telluride.  2009 lineup includes: Gaelic Storm, Jerry Douglas Band, Tim O'Brien, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello & The Sugarcanes, David Byrne, Sam Bush Band, Telluride House Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, Connor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band, Bela Fleck & Toumani Diabate, Crooked Still, and more.

In addition to the main stage, there are many other events and activities during the Telluride Bluegrass Festival including workshops on the Elks Park stage, NightGrass sessions of late-night bluegrass, the Family Tent, and an annual songwriting contest

Thursday through Sunday of the Festival you can join in daily workshops at Elks Park.  Workshops are free to festival pass holders and range from jam sessions to discussions about music and environmentalism to stories and songs.   These workshops are known for adding an unique and inspiring element to the festival.

After the sun sets check out NightGrass shows which are held at the Sheridan Opera House, the Fly Me to the Moon Saloon and Las Montanas.  Also, some shows are held at the Telluride Conference Center in Mountain Village.

Don't forget to bring your family. Festivarian families travel to Telluride Bluegrass Festival annually.  There are many activities for kids including hiking, horseback riding, and a family area within the Festival grounds.  The Family Tent is home to clowns, juggling, crafts including decorating your own hula hoop, and a talent show.  The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is a great venue for family fun for kids of all ages.

Another unique aspect of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival is the annual music contest that takes place in conjunction to the main event.  Musicians compete for cash prizes, instruments and recognition during the 2009 Telluride Troubadour Contest.  The competition is open to musicians who write and perform original music.  Contestants cannot be currently signed to a major recording or publishing deal.
