But there's no better way to go out on a remarkable summer than to end with the Telluride Blues and Brews festival.

This year we were blessed with beautiful, blue-bird skies while Gov't Mule, G.Love, the John Butler Trio, Derek Trucks, Etta James and many more jammed out on main stage in Telluride's breath-taking Town Park. And that's just half the fun... Saturday of Blues and Brews is the Grand Tasting with over 50 microbreweries from all around the country. For three hours you can enjoy live music while sampling over 150 different kinds of beer, which will leave you with over 150 different reasons to never leave this beautiful box canyon. Cheers to an amazing summer!

"When B.B. King performed here in 2004, he sat on this same stage, looked out at the mountains before him, and told the crowd, "Out of the 90 different countries I've been to, I've never seen anything more beautiful than what you have here.""

By maintaining its "Unmatched in North America" standards, Telluride Ski Resort has just recently opened new terrain for all to enjoy! New terrain always brings a smile to the faces of locals, die-hard skiers, and the experienced tourist and with the opening of Gold Hill chutes 6 through 10; this will truly put Telluride into a whole new bracket. This past weekend, after I watched my own NCAA bracket crumble in upsets, I decided to ski away my tournament worries and hike to Gold Hill Chute #9. I don't know why #9, but I had been eyeing it all season, anxiously watching ski patrol prepare and control the area. After months of snow and extensive avalanche control, Gold Hill chutes provide expert terrain where precision plays an important role.

The 45 minute hike takes you through the backcountry gate at the top of Gold Hill with awe-inspiring views of Bear Creek and San Joaquin Bowl (which someday might also be opened to the public). The #9 chute was rock-strewn, narrow and steep, but some of the best turns of the season. At the end of the chute you are dumped into the finest snow on the mountain, Palmyra basin, with hundreds of yards of open turns and knee-deep powder. I was ecstatic to get some new terrain into the last couple weeks of the season and can't wait to see what TelSki has to offer next year!

It's après time. I had heard good things about the Inn at Lost Creek, so I decided to ski down and check out 9545.
Perfectly situated at 9,545 ft. in elevation, 9545 Restaurant and Bar is Mountain Village's answer to fine dining, convenient Après ski, and a relaxed bar atmosphere. Nestled at the bottom of lift 4, this ski-in/ski-out restaurant is somehow sophisticated and laid-back at the same time. With a convenient ski valet service and slippers provided for ski-boot weary diners, you are immediately met with the award winning service of a "Top 100 Best Hotel in the World" (Reader's Choice Awards - Conde Nast Traveler 2003).

9545's main menu offers fresh, seasonal ingredients for your fine dining experience. The featured dinner menu includes "24 hour" fresh Alaskan King Salmon, Spice Grilled Pork Tenderloin, a hearty Buffalo Sirloin and many more mouth-watering entrees. In a rush or in the mood for a more casual atmosphere? 9545's bar is the place to relax and admire the whimsical sunsets in the evenings. My favorite part of 9545's bar was the convenience of ordering from either the main menu or the Après bar menu while enjoying the laid-back environment. To satisfy a skier's appetite try the Crab & Avocado wrap, Portobello Fries, the "Best Burger in Telluride" and don't forget to wash it down with one of their many specialty winter cocktails. The bar tends to be a bit crowded during the Après ski rush, but overall, well worth the wait. From a quick bite to multiple-course dining, 9545 truly has "an elevated dining experience" above the rest.

For more Telluride local scoop visit: http://www.telluride.com/around-town/telluride-local-scoop.html

While most people were skiing corduroy and taking powder turns, my friend and I decided to check out the infamous hike-to terrain that Telluride has to offer. After months of avalanche control and hard work from Telluride's ski patrol, this new terrain is available for the first time in years. This amazing hike-to terrain includes over 200 acres and a 2,000 vertical feet scramble to the 13,320 foot peak. We began our trek at 10:30 in the morning on a crystal clear, blue-sky day with conditions better than ideal. As Palmyra stared down on us, we were unaware of the very strenuous climb ahead. With loose rock, steep terrain, and extreme falls on either side, this was not a hike for the weary. After an hour and a half we finally reached our destination, 13,320 feet in elevation and the most stunning view that I've ever seen in my life. And that was just the beginning...

Palmyra Peak

After a much needed break on top, we strapped on our skis and started choosing our lines. We dropped in and immediately had an ear-to-ear grin for the rest of the 10 minute run. With smiles and powder up to our knees, it was worth every step of the 2,000 vertical foot hike. It was truly an amazing day and the best thing is... "What can be considered some of the most spectacular in-bounds terrain in North America", is right here in our backyard!

I had become spoiled this summer seeing legends such as Bob Dylan, Sam Bush, Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes, Jerry Douglas, and many others during Telluride's numerous festivals. I thought I had seen it all...
Then I stumbled upon the Ying Yang Twins last Wednesday night at the Telluride Conference Center. Needless to say, it was quite a culture shock for the small town of Mountain Village with a population of just over 1,000. The Conference Center's elegant interior finishes and stunning "boardroom" décor was quickly transformed into a scene from Spring Break on MTV. College students from Arizona, Illinois, and Iowa were spending their remaining days in Telluride on Christmas vacation and the Ying Yang Twins were a perfect finale to an historic week of skiing. The hip-hop group quickly awakened the quiet little town with hits such as "Salt Shaker", "Get Low", and a Hall & Oats sampling "Dangerous".

Ying Yang Twins

Less than two weeks before, John Oats had graced his presence in Telluride at the New Sheridan Opera House during the Holiday Concert Series featuring an all-star line up with Otis Taylor and Smokey Robinson. John Oats played with "one of the most in-demand blues/rock guitarists in the world", G.E. Smith, who played lead guitar with Hall & Oates from 1979 to 1985 and went on to front the Saturday Night Live Band. The Holiday Concert Series helped raise money for the Sheridan Arts Foundation and its ability to continue providing artistic programs for local youth (Young People's Theater) and for the Boys & Girls Clubs/Big Brothers of America, for inner city and Native American children.

Who would have ever thought you could use John Oats and Ying Yang Twins in the same sentence?

I can't wait to see who plays next here in Telluride...
